Antique 19th Century Grand Tour Bronze Models Of Parisian Monuments – Antique Paintings Antique Furniture

The Grand Tour was the mid-17th-19th century study abroad program for the English, à la Jane Austen or Henry James. It was designed to give gentlemen an aesthetic education through French and Italian art. Travelers (which eventually included young women) typically came home with crates full of souvenirs that they had collected, such as paintings, sculptures, and fine clothes. Once an exclusive experience, as travel was costly and time-consuming, the Grand Tour was only for the elite. This collection of bronze models of the monuments of Paris is typical of the keepsakes brought home from travel to the continent.
